30 years ago today, Bhai Jaswant Singh Khalra was killed by the Punjab Police for exposing the truth about over 25,000 disappeared Sikhs.

Khalra was abducted on September 6, and after more than a month of torture and abuse, he was shot twice in the chest. His body was taken in a police jeep and thrown into the Harike canal. His body was never found. Parnaam Shaheedan Nu.

With Guru Sahib’s kirpa, Baaghi donated $4,500 (₹400,000) toward flood relief efforts in Punjab. The funds gathered from merch sales and Baaghi sewadars were given to Waris Punjab De @thewarispanjabde sewadar Bhai Chamkour Singh @sardar_chamkour_singh_dhun at ਤੁਹਾਡਾ ਆਪਣਾ ਕੈਂਪ in Baupur, Kapurthala, under the teams of Deep Singh Sidhu @deepsidhudeep1984 and Bhai Amritpal Singh @officialbhaiamritpalsingh .

This dasvandh will help fund diesel for tractors clearing silt from flooded fields, as well as support ongoing ਬੰਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਬੰਨਣ ਦੀ ਸੇਵਾ (embankment building) to help farmers prepare for upcoming fertilizer and ਬੀਜਣ ਦੀ ਸੇਵਾ (Beejan di Sewa).

There is an old fable: when the sun was setting for the first time, it made its descent, and as light began to fade, darkness started to stretch across the earth. People grew anxious. They feared that once the sun had fully set, darkness would rule, and no one would be able to see. ‘What will happen to us now?’ they asked, filled with worry. The sun set. To show its strength, darkness set its foot on the earth. But far away, in a small hut, one little lamp lifted his head. It declared, ‘I challenge the darkness. If nothing else, I will not allow it to settle around me. Around myself, I will establish light.’ And it is said, watching that one lamp, lamps in other huts also rose. One by one, they lit their flames, and the world watched in awe. These small lamps stopped darkness from spreading, allowing people to see. I believe today, when darkness, with all its strength, thrusts itself over the truth—if nothing else—I will say ‘Ankhila Punjab’ (self-respecting Punjab) is the light that will challenge this darkness, and I pray to the Guru, who identifies with Truth, to keep this light lit.

Those who have laid their lives and livelihoods for the sake of the Panth, they have understood the words ‘till death do us part’ better than anyone. These kharku couples stood side by side as they fought against injustice. The singhs and singhniyan did their duty to uphold their sacred oath between themselves and maharaj till their dying breath.

These days we forget our duty toward the Panth, we get married and get comfortable in conformity. When we see ourselves forgetting their sacrifices and getting lost in maya, getting lost in the materialistic world, away from maharaj. Let’s remind ourselves of these couples. These couples who exemplified the essence of what true love is, sacrifice.
